1020 Wednesday 3.29 assignments

1. Summarize the main point of the Nakamura (p707-713) essay. Describe what kinds of evidence the author uses to support this point. Do you think the author makes her point effectively? Why or why not? What is your response to the main idea you summarized, explain with evidence and support.

2. Read through the other blogged responses to assignment 1.

On Monday you wrote a little about your final project issue and how you think you are going to approach that. After thinking about this during the week, and doing more research, write in more detail about the potential scope of your final project.

What is the issue? What is the 'angle' you want to take on this issue (how are you going to approach and focus the topic to be specific to your needs and interests)? Who do you think your audience will be for your 'argument'?

Additionally, what kinds of information/sources have you found so far, and what more do you think you might need to find?

I would like a 1-2 page proposal of your final project posted on your blog. Although the scope of the project is subject to change, please be as specific about the project as is possible. Include any information from any of the sources that you are thinking about using.

1020-Short Essay Assignment-week of 3.6.06

Instead of a writing a short blog response this week, please post a complete essay to your blog by class time on Friday. Copy this assignment to your blog post.

Assignment: Take one of the readings or articles we've talked about in regard to professional concerns, summarize the main idea of the article, and then respond to that idea. Use quotes and information from the article, explain how the main idea/point is made, develop a thoughtful and detailed response that addresses the main idea that is presented.

You essay should be about 2 pages typed in Word in a 10-12 point font (600-800 words).

1020 in class and homework response blog assignments 3.1.06

First, copy this assignment onto a new blog post, and then respond. You will begin working on this in class, and finish for homework (by class time Friday) since I otherwise didn't post a blog assignment for this week.

1. Write about the 'Individual and Society' especially in light of the personal and cultural issues we've already talked about and your thoughts on professional and/or academic interests: how do all of these relate to each other? What kinds of connections can be made between all three areas (personal/cultural/professional)? Why are the connections important to think and talk about? Explain in detail and use examples.

2. Continue this for Friday and add a discussion about gender, race, and class issues in regard to professions and jobs. What about vocations vs jobs, and 'alternative' (or outside of 'mainstream') types of work/career? How does college prepare (or not prepare) you for what comes after/outside of college?

In the end, you should have a MINIMUM of 2 thoughtful and detailed paragraphs.
